Adventures in Film | The Gipsons

It’s usually easy for me to find words to accompany a blog post, but tonight I’m at a loss. I can’t seem to find the phrasing. The prose. The words that, when strung together perfectly, would accurately summarize my meeting Suzanne, our time together in Colorado, and the weekend I spent with her family in Ohio. They aren’t coming to me. I can tell you that Suzanne is an incredibly talented photographer and has a quiet happiness about her. That her husband Brant is a wonderful musician and has a perfect sense of humor. That their home is filled with magic. I can tell you about about their two children and the joy with which they embrace each day. And I can tell you that both of them, a mess of lovely hair and big eyes, greeted me with cautious welcome, excited curiosity and shy laughter. Which was absolutely and...

things I want to remember | december

Time is flying by lately. It’s whizzing, really, and it’s taken my breath away on several occasions.  There’s so much to do, so much undone at the end of each day, and I find myself struggling to fit everything in as effortlessly as I used to. I’ve shifted somehow. I’ve changed. Rearranged. I’m currently lost in the revelry of my daughters. Their joy, their wonder, their singing and longing and curiosities. I’ve immersed myself in them and it’s been wonderful. But time flits by ever so swiftly still, and I find myself filled with a joyful sorrow; these moments, the little things that pass by without much ado, years from now they will be the big things. Every ounce of mundane – of minutia – will be a weighted trap of memory, of reminiscence. Bittersweet longing. Someday I’ll look back on today and I know it won’t be the dishes...

Featured | Mineralogy Design

I have a soft spot for creatives. For people who live their passions and create with their own hands. I nurture and support and promote independent artists as much and as often as I can. So I am super excited to (finally!) be starting a column on this here bloggity dedicated to some of these incredible individuals. And what better time kick it off than the start of the holiday shopping season?? So without further ado, I’d love to introduce you to Theresa Cowan, the creative force and insane talent behind Mineralogy Designs. Tell me a little bit about Mineralogy Designs? Mineralogy is a collection of limited edition and one-of-a-kind jewelry designed and handcrafted in my Chicago studio. The brand was conceptualized from an earth science lecture where my budding interest in jewelry and materials made it’s complete connection through my new interest in minerals. Every step of the way is...

the wild is calling | a story about fire + creativity

It’s a typical Tuesday evening in the bleak suburban dreary, lifeless midwest Novembery autumn, and I’m staring at a blinking cursor desperately hoping that inspiration will strike. That all of a sudden I will write with a fury, words pouring out of me in violent waves of prose and poignancy. But it doesn’t. It hasn’t. The cursor is still blinking.  I promised myself I would blog more regularly once the new brand was launched and I had a pretty new home to house all of my…me. But I haven’t. Not really. I haven’t started the columns I’ve been hoping to start (fashion! design! featured creatives!). I haven’t been curating hip, design-centric things for the new home, or even sharing that process. I just haven’t really been. Life is just sort of happening, and I guess I’m busy out there living it. Which is sort of the point if you think about it....
