I met Sally over the winter. Well, I intermet her, actually. We corresponded exclusively via Facebook until this past Tuesday night when we finally, FINALLY! met in person. We hugged and laughed and talked as if we’ve been friends forever. I joked with her husband (and talked motorbikes!) and make quick friends with her two adorable and darling little girls. We spent an hour living, walking, sharing stories, and laughing at Silverwood Park. I spent an hour shooting – for sixty short minutes I documented a few fleeting moments in their lives. Gwen’s playful eyes, Elsa’s cautious and inquisitive demeanor, Alex’s love for his family – and Sally. Beautiful, mesmerizing, amazing Sally....
a cacophony of minutia: the two most darling girls since ever
I’m not really busy right now – and I’m okay with that actually. In a few weeks I’ll be busy again, and preparing for an insane summer wedding season. So right now, in the moments when I’m not at the cube farm or watching Gossip Girl, I find myself spending every last moment with my two darling girls; Playing, adventuring, laughing, tickling, living. The things I miss when I’m working – which I tend to do all. the. time. Last night, as I was falling asleep I realized I don’t take any photographs of my life. The moments I live. Every single day. Jen Frisbie + the prettiest baby shower ever.
I am a portrait photographer – I photograph people. They are what I know. People are what stirs my heart and inspires me to the depths of my soul. But every once in awhile an opportunity comes along and offers me the chance to do something different. Something I never imagined myself doing. Something…..that I just can’t pass up. Last Saturday was just such an occasion. I got an email earlier last week from my bestie (and wedding planner extraordinaire) Nadia asking if I would consider shooting a baby shower. Wait, what? Um…huh? A baby shower? Exactly. Nadia informed me that an amazing newlywed couple were putting on a “Greet-The-Baby Shower” (a tradition in their native Jakarta) to introduce their very new, very beautiful,baby girl. Cubicles and Pretty Girls
I have a day job. A big girl, grown up, sit-down-punch-in-work-hard-go-home-repeat-tomorrow job. I work in a cubicle – nondescript in a sea of other 8×8 plots of thin carpet tile, padded walls, and faux formica desktops. A cube farm that I call an office 40 hours each week. Most days are kind of meh. They go by without much ado and hold only the promise of another workday equally mundane. And another. And so on and so forth ad infinitum. But days when I get to take two of the most hilarious, fun-loving, crazy gorgeous girls outside to the loading dock because I need to “test my lens” are especially awesome. Chelsea and Mel make my cubicle life a little easier to bear, a lot more fun, and a helluva lot more beautiful. I have a feeling I’ll be taking their photographs again. And again. And again……....
