Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes. Thousands of images. Three hundred sixty five days. Dozens of Stories. Fifty Two weeks. Fourteen weddings. Twelve months. Eight states. One year. Holy shit it’s been a whirlwind year. They say (whoever “they” are) that you should do something every day that scares you – so today that thing is going to be talking about my accomplishments. I’m terrible at self-promotion but I’m going to give it an honest-to-goodness go. Gulp. In August I hosted my first workshop, Write Your Life, and am working on launching my second. Three days later I lost my corporate job and was catapulted head first into legitimate, scary-as-f*ck, self-employment, though it is a position I should have chosen for myself ages ago. This fall I was asked to hand letter a magazine cover for Minnesota Monthly and the beautiful Lucia at Utterly Engaged tasked me with writing an...
remembering a perfectly wonderful year | the best of 2014
It’s that time of year again — time for me to reflect on all that’s happened over the past twelve months. I’ve been dreading this post, actually. Which probably seems odd. But it means that this year is over. That it’s gone, folded into the pages of memory, and I’m not quite ready to let it go just yet. It was incredibly perfect. Everything I’ve been dreaming of since I launched this humble endeavor, and decided, once and for all to chase headlong into the chasm of dreaming-so-big-it’s-scary. This year has been – has meant – everything. But much to my chagrin, and despite my resistance, the year is coming to a close. So it’s time to savor each and every moment I was able to spend with all of you. A walk down the aisle. A new baby. Friendship. Family. Joy. Your stories are my why, and every single time...
Caitlin’s Floral Inspired Outdoor Boudoir Session
Caitlin is one of those girls who just exudes warmth. Her energy is absolutely infectious and vibrant and after knowing her for only a few weeks I feel like we’ve been friends our whole lives. Caitlin is, in the simplest of terms, absolutely, incredibly, wholeheartedly Capital F Fun. When she approached me about shooting a boudoir session as a gift to her soon-to-be-husband, I asked her if she was at all interested in shooting it outdoors, as an outdoor boudoir shoot has been on my Dear-God-I-Want-To-Do-This list for what seems like ages, and she jumped at the chance. Which made me, almost literally, jump for joy. The word boudoir means different things to different people, but to me, a boudoir session is about documenting a woman’s innate beauty and her own unique, and often subtle, vulnerabilities. Accomplishing this can only be done with confidence and through trust, and Caitlin brought...
Nicole+Aaron: A Saint Paul Engagement
Nicole and Aaron are two of the most amazing people. Fun. Energetic. Sarcastic. In love. They are, for all those reasons and more, ideal clients. Of course, home made Sangria and a willingness to jump in a fountain certainly helped to up the ante in their favor. But I digress. Nicole and I have been in contact, via the wonderful world of technology, for a few months and I was crazy excited about a couple bikes that Nicole found at a garage sale. When she asked if I thought they’d work for the engagement session, I squealed. Which, obviously, means, “Duh! Yes. Yes. Then more yes.” We rode around their St Paul neighborhood for a while and found some pretty just-before-the-storm light. After a quick outfit change, and another glass of Sangria, we headed to a local park with an amazing fountain, and more filtery soft about-to-tornado-so-take-cover-already light. Nicole +...
