Shooting Blind

I once heard that you should always go to a location before you shoot it. Check out it out. Get a feel for it. Let it inspire you. Watch the light as it moves across the space. For the first wedding I ever shot I heeded this advice (and an entire bottle of TUMS). I drove to the reception site the day before the event and scoped locations.  This was immensely helpful since last minute snafus left me with 45 minutes to shoot all of the portraits, family photos, bridal party, and details. If I didn’t have a plan, especially with the nerves of a first-timer coursing through my veins, the day could have been a disaster.  But it wasn’t. Every photo shoot I’ve been on since has been shot “blind.”  I did not get a chance to scope out locations ahead of time.  So I had to shift my...

Wedgaged: Rachel+John

Rachel and John are amazing: Fun. Easygoing. Gorgeous. Hilarious. From Rachel’s fiery red hair and easy smile to John’s fear of bare feet and subsequent affinity for black socks, these two make the most perfect pair.  They are getting married in a few short weeks on the beautiful beaches of Jamaica, and asked if I was available to shoot both a traditional engagement session, followed by a wedding-esque shoot, before they elope.  I did not hesitate with my affirmative response. In fact, I’m pretty sure it was an emphatic “YES!” followed by thirty exclamation points. Give or take. The sessions took place in the steamy 104 degree afternoon heat at their (brand new) cabin in an itty bitty town about an hour from Austin. We found some dreamy light, and they more than obliged when I screamed and ordered them out of the car! There’s this light! Right there!! Squeeeee!!...

Reece: Newborn Session

This amazing creature is the newest addition to an already amazing family.  Three people I’m honored to call friends, have now become a family of four.  I was overjoyed to have the privilege of capturing some photos of Reece’s first few days of life, and can not wait to watch him grow.  Congrats, Jon and Melissa! He is beautiful. With this guy looking out for him, Reece has nothing to fear from life.  Masen, you’re going to be a fantastic big brother. Always Love,A...

Breaking the Rules: Katy & Chris Port Aransas Wedding

They met in a bar. Katy was simply looking for an icy beverage, nothing more. Then she saw him…and just had to meet him. Get to know everything about him. At first, Chris turned her down.  He didn’t date customers; it was against his rules.  Separate personal and professional, that was Chris’ way. But Katy didn’t take no for an answer.  And it didn’t take long for Chris to realize he was a goner. Smitten. Truly, madly, deeply.  Their friendship blossomed and formed over years. Their families intertwined. And on Saturday, Chris and Katy allowed me the privilege of capturing their simple, elegant, beautiful Port Aransas wedding. Katy, you are crazy gorgeous. Just sayin…. After some convincing {and good, old-fashioned Starbucks style bribery} Katy and Chris opted for a first look: They way they look at each other…you can’t help but feel it.   It electrifies the air around them.  ...
