It’s 70 degrees in Minnesota. In March. MARCH! Most years we’re still covered under a thick blanket of white – the sun warming the earth to a mild 40, and, if we’re lucky, a warm, southerly breeze. But 70 degrees is unheard of. I, like many of my Minnesconsin brethren, have been trying my hardest to soak in as much vitamin D as I possibly can….chances are by next week it’ll be below freezing and threatening to snow. That said, on Wednesday afternoon I decided to take Thursday off work – A respite from the cube farm and a chance to surprise my girls with a Family Fun Day. Outside! Moments after my time-off request was approved I got the itch to shoot a sunrise session. To finally make it happen. You see, every weekday morning I drive to work through the prettiest light, and I always, always wish I...
on goodness
In November I took a risk. I wrote an essay and sent it to a photographer whose work I am in complete and utter awe of, and gulped. I asked the universe for help, I hoped. I dreamed. I crossed all my fingers and toes and prayed. And in January, the universe answered. I was chosen to attend Clayton Austin‘s first ever Share The Goodness: An Inspiration Shop and I was floored. Excited. Scared. Crazy nervous. I can’t explain why Clayton chose me as an attendee – the essay? Perhaps. My photography? Maybe. But what I can tell you is that in one single day (and two fleeting evenings) my life was forever changed. Not only was I given the opportunity to learn from an incredible photographer, but I was in a studio with some of the most amazing people I have had the pleasure of meeting – talented, humble, funny, candid, amazing people – photographers – who...

Jessica: A Deconstructed Ranch Bridal Session
Two days before Jessica’s gorgeous wedding, we met at her grandparent’s ranch for a super laid back, deconstructed bridal session. Jessica donned her mother’s wedding dress – custom fit and redesigned for her style, cowboy boots, and a bouquet that I crafted for the occasion. The day was filled with emotion, mosquitoes, and dreamy afternoon sunshine – the last we’d see for the remainder of the weekend. Jessica is, by far, one of the most classic beauties I have ever met. Her style is effortless – as evidenced by these photos. Sans makeup or professional hairstyling, she is still radiant. Gorgeous. Jessica: I wish we would have had our afternoon with wildflowers, but I’m so very thankful for our day at the ranch. xoxo Always Love, Athena...
