A few weekends ago I traveled to San Jose to document the beautiful women behind Imago Fitness and finally met Joanne in real life. We’ve been internet friends for a couple of years, but become close after she inspired me to finally believe in myself enough to embark on my own fitness journey. Joanne + her husband Jonathan happen to be phenomenal photographers, and the kind of people who steal themselves quietly into your life, slowly filling the cracks you didn’t know existed, and then burst out, effervescent and overflowing with joy. They are kind and beautiful and generous and a million other adjectives that feel trite when I roll them around in my mouth, feeling their weight on my tongue. These are the kind of people for whom words are simply not enough. While I was staying with them, Joanne mentioned that weekend mornings have become a sort of ritual...
in pictures | the incredible year that was 2013.
I don’t know that I’m ready to summarize this past year in words. I don’t know that I’ve quite found the right ones just yet, and to be honest, I’m not certain I ever will. So I’m going to do the best at can right this moment, and allow my photographs to speak for me. I have exponentially more favorites than I could ever share in one blog post, so here are a few of the ones that stood out to me – in no particular order (and not including any iPhone or instagram photos.) It’s hard to believe that each one of these stories happened this year. Some feel as though they occurred ages ago, and others, still only just yesterday. Featured | Mineralogy Design
I have a soft spot for creatives. For people who live their passions and create with their own hands. I nurture and support and promote independent artists as much and as often as I can. So I am super excited to (finally!) be starting a column on this here bloggity dedicated to some of these incredible individuals. And what better time kick it off than the start of the holiday shopping season?? So without further ado, I’d love to introduce you to Theresa Cowan, the creative force and insane talent behind Mineralogy Designs. Tell me a little bit about Mineralogy Designs? Mineralogy is a collection of limited edition and one-of-a-kind jewelry designed and handcrafted in my Chicago studio. The brand was conceptualized from an earth science lecture where my budding interest in jewelry and materials made it’s complete connection through my new interest in minerals. Every step of the way is...
american beauty | my life on film
There are moments in my life where I suddenly feel as though I’m trapped inside American Beauty. Moments when I look outside my window and I’m caught breathless and forced to stop and see. In those moments I’m taken aback by all the beauty in the world – the beauty that is so often left unseen – and I marvel in it. I breathe it deep and close my eyes as it fills each cell with its magic. In the next instant I blink my eyes back open, turn off my hazards, and drive back onto the road. My day resumes the tenor of casual nonchalance, the phone rings, and I’m snapped back into tedium. But on rare occasions, I find a way to hold on a little longer to the fleeting beauty that is everything in life. When I’m really lucky, the stars align, a fog rolls in, and I find a...
