Breanna and I met a few years ago when I hired her to design and brand my first official photography website. We hit it off pretty instantly and became friends during my design experience. She is responsible for this incredible site, as well, and my crazy awesome new logo and branding. Breanna is an incredible creative with exquisite taste and a killer style, and she writes an incredible column for freelance designers. Professional accolades aside, Breanna is also a beautiful soul. She is sweet, kind, honest, authentic, and has a sharp wit, though she most likely won’t admit it. She makes insanely delicious mac + cheese (which I’m still desperately waiting to sample) and every time we get together she tells me a little bit more about her love, Michael. That he takes great care of her. That he’s her favorite travel companion. That he is patient and something about his...
in pictures | the incredible year that was 2013.
I don’t know that I’m ready to summarize this past year in words. I don’t know that I’ve quite found the right ones just yet, and to be honest, I’m not certain I ever will. So I’m going to do the best at can right this moment, and allow my photographs to speak for me. I have exponentially more favorites than I could ever share in one blog post, so here are a few of the ones that stood out to me – in no particular order (and not including any iPhone or instagram photos.) It’s hard to believe that each one of these stories happened this year. Some feel as though they occurred ages ago, and others, still only just yesterday. But what I do know for sure is that every single person in these photographs – and so many more that aren’t pictured here – have completely and...
liz + nick | northern shores, blind dates, and destiny
There are moments in each of our lives where everything changes. We don’t always recognize them when they happen, but they alter our paths just the same. For Liz, that moment happened in grad school when she was partnered with a woman named Marie. Marie knew a boy, and somewhere deep down, she knew that he and Liz would be great together. So she arranged a dinner. Nothing more, nothing less. A meal shared between two strangers destined to become so much more. Fast forward to this past May in northern Minnesota, where Nick asked Liz to write herself into his destiny for the whole of forever. At a lighthouse overlooking Lake Superior, Liz happily obliged. Fast forward to last weekend, as the wind whipped and chilled the November air and the trees shook angry fingers at the sky. The clouds roiled and raced across a hazy sky, and Liz...
liz + ethan | castle mound engagement session
I’m not sure what I can say about Ethan and Liz that would adequately describe these two incredible people. Adjectives seem to trivial – too few – to do the joy and love and zest that is their love for one another justice. I am soooo lucky to have clients – friends – like Ethan and Liz. Not many people would drive over two hours to meet me at a state forest campground (Castle Mound) for their engagement session – let alone do so with ridiculous enthusiasm. I cannot wait for their candlelit December wedding (at a winery!) and I know that these two souls are in for a lifetime of immense happiness. I can feel it deep within my bones. And here is a look at our evening together – moving pictures, style: Liz Ethan | Castle Mound Engagement Session from athena pelton on Vimeo....
