A month ago I made a commitment to blog more regularly. Once or twice a week. Because I want to. Really, I do. I used to blog almost daily – and I had a lot more to say then. Maybe it wasn’t always interesting, or worth reading, but I was writing. And isn’t that the point? I told myself I’d make a conscious effort to post more – to share more about my life, outside of photography. To talk about fashion and grammar and popcorn and pinot noir and all the other minutia of my life that makes me….me. But I haven’t. cortney + trent | winter maternity photography
I don’t shoot maternity sessions. It’s not that I don’t want to – or don’t like to – it’s simply that I haven’t really been presented the opportunity (save for once, at the very beginning of my career). So when my friend Cortney asked if I’d be interested in documenting her and her husband Trent’s journey into parenthood, I (literally) jumped at the chance. I’ve known these two for nearly seven years, and just after we met they got married. I raised a glass and toasted their love, and I danced voraciously with them afterward. I was pregnant with my first child at the time, so in a lot of ways it’s as though the circle is completing itself. february | a month without
I gave up shopping in January – my first Month Without – and I failed. No. Really. I mean it. Not just a little bit, either. Big, fat, loud, crashing, booming FAILED. I shopped. But I’m finding solace in the notion that the only thing worse than failing, is never trying in the first place. I got a new job – just after I made this resolution. Well, okay, it’s more of a responsiblity change at the cube farm, than it is a new job, but still – the change required a more professional wardrobe, which necessitated the purchase of a few staples. A pair of pointy-toed black pumps and a cocktail dress (That I found on super-double clearance for…wait for it….NINE DOLLARS!!!). So I didn’t blow it, in the strictest sense of the word, but still.
